running shoes.

Today.

I found one of my running shoes lying alone in the driveway.
it's partner was nowhere to be found.

Lincoln tells me that he threw them outside
(for reasons currently unknown).

Me:

Lincoln, mommy really needs to find my other shoe
or I'm not going to be able to practice and I'm going to lose my race.

Lincoln:
(really concerned face then, BAM! light bulb!)

Mommy!
You can just hop really really fast!

Nice.

Thank you Lincoln.

I'll do that.

______________________

thank you all so much for your encouragement and running tips.

I'm happy to report that I actually did it.

Monday, I ran 3 consecutive miles!
well, I did walk 2 small hills for less than 1 min each.

I was bewildered by my ability to do this.

truly stunned.

not to say it was at all pleasant.

no.

I'm quite certain there were 3 or 4 times when I actually
HOPED a car would take me out and save me from my misery.

Tuesday was a resting day.

Today, I miraculously did it again!

Tomorrow:

FOUR.MILES.

Seriously.

To be totally transparent:
I'm freaking out of my mind.

Allllllll that said,
honestly thank you.

Your tips and encouragement truly gave me courage.

So many of you expressed the reality that it's all a mental game.
I can now attest to that as well,
because when I said earlier that there was no way I could EVER,
EVER run 3 miles,
I wasn't being modest.

It was quite literally, physically impossible. . .
and yet. . .

wow.

I'm amazed and can't help but mention the parallel to life in general.

I'm consistently CONVINCED that I just CAN'T do this or that,
and yet. . .

hmmmmmm.

lots of love and happy Wednesday!

Hello, I work in a pediatric hospital. Reading the article, it makes me wonder if all hospital workers should get boosters? Do you know if there are any guidelines/recommendations regarding this? I will check with our infection control as well.

katrynka,

anyone working with infants should 100% definitely receive the booster.

Hey Natalie,
I know you but you probably don't remember me. We share some mutual friends but also were at BYUH at the same time. Anyway I followed your story about your son. I was pregnante during the whole thing and it just had this profound effect on me. I've been spreading the information about pertussis to all I know. I don't know why it hit me so hard but I've been in this with you to get the information out there. I talk to my doctors about it everytime and ask them what they are doing to educate parents and those around Infants and children about it. I just wanted you to know I admire you and if there is any thing more I can do to help the cause please let me know. You are the best! Oh and good luck on your race. I might try it next year if I can whip my butt into shape! Aloha!

Natalie and Richie you are so wonderful to share your story with others to save a little soul. I am so glad you are doing this! I live in Canada and I am going to start making sure that adults with small kids have their booster shots!

Hi Natalie!
I'm new to reading your blogs, but I just wanted to let you know that you and your articles (and this place to) has given me the initiative that I need.
Your positivity is indeed infectious!!
I remember running 40 minutes straight (which is 3.2 miles to me) for the first time a month ago. It is such an emotional feeling, and I was in the same boat you were; thought I could never do it! It definitely makes you question what else you CAN do.

Thanks for being so inspiring!

I gave birth to my little Lincoln a week ago and before I left the American Fork Hospital, I got my TDAP shot. Thank you so much for spreading the word. You are such a strong person, and I look up to you in many ways.

So proud of you Sis. I mailed you a couple of t-shirts to ease your running laundry. Watch the mail!

If you get a stitch in your side while you run, exhale when your right foot strikes. Meaning as your right foot hits the ground give out a puff. You'll figure out how to time it so it flows and feels natural, but you'll see how effective it is. With in 30 seconds, it should be gone. (It's usually the biggest complaint with new runners.)
