Instax.

I'm sincerely considering nabbing one of these bad boys
for our upcoming travels.

I almost bought one for each of the boys for Christmas.
I mean, Santa almost did that.

BUT THEN,
Santa realized how expensive the film was
and decided those were really extravagant gifts
for a 6, 4 and 3 year old.

. . .they're just so awfully trendy at the moment.

That is always a deterrent to me,
but it really shouldn't be.

Because that is a REALLY stupid reason
not to get something awesome. . .

thoughts?

yes/no/maybe

its a big huge YES. I got my kids polaroids from the time they were like 3.. both girls had them and loved them then the film stopped. I just got the instax two weeks ago and its so so fun. The kids love them. We save all the photos in an album. I even used it at a wedding the other day for fun and the guests loved it. YES, YES, YES... does my vote count three times? Plus, I had it as a kid, so that means my kids have to have it too.. isn't that how it works?

by the way, when are you speaking on Oahu again? i really want to make it.

Digital!! Gotta go digital! Your pocketbook will thank you. Last year, I gave my kids a digital camera; they were 2 and 3. They went hog wild taking photos and experimenting with the flash and without. They took wonderful photos. But they took more awful photos. A lot more. So, my advice is start with digital for the kids. Although, maybe you should pick up an Instax for yourself. The people I know who have them l-o-v-e them. And I'm considering one for myself (my kids are SO not there yet!!)

WOW! It looks cool anyway. I wouldn't buy one for my 3year old because she's still pulling hair out of her dolls so one could imagine what she would do with a cute little camera. Although, she's taken such a liking to my Nikon D90. hummm....

Amazon, has got them a lot cheaper. . .I am such an enabler: http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-MINI-7s-White-Camera/dp/B001AK1DOG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275490343&sr=8-1-catcorr

I just got mine and absolutely loved it. I actually took it to Disney during Memorial weekend. I love that I have pictures in my hand from our vacation. I don't know what it is about photographers and personal pictures, but it takes me forever to get them developed. I love how tiny they are and B&H sells the fill for cheap. Go for it!

my friend tara whitney (she's a photog too not sure if you know her) has one...LOVES it! she is against ANYTHING trendy it bugs her so bad but she got one and loves it and shockingly enough posted it on her blog. that was WAY out of character for her. if you want it you should get it no matter how trendy.

YES! I played with a friend's back in February and put it on my "I want" list. Her daughters love it, too...when she decides to share with them.

it would be fun...but then again, you could shoot digitally and then make all the processing mistakes that newbie photogs make and have the same result. ;-)

Maybe get one to start and have them (and you!) share ?? They do look really cool!! My kids have the v-tech digital camera and they love it... though we have yet to upload anything from it!, so I see the pros of the instax! I say start with one and see how it goes down.

my little 7 year old sister has a little digital toy camera that she loves and uses all the time...i would suggest digital for kids, because they like to take tonz and tonz of pictures...the camera she has also has video.

for you? i would definitely get this camera...i want one too!

I give it big heck YES. I got one (as they are not available in Canada, I got mine on line through B&H Photo, cheapest I could find by far) before our trip to California and it was a blast to use. Of course, it doesn't replace your D-SLR, nor is it meant to. It is just a fun addition to the usual family vacation pictures. In regards to it being to trendy to get...it is way to much fun to worry about that :)

uh, yes! we got one, and love it. the film is expensive, but really so fun. we got ours on b&h too...film is the cheapest there too (jon sent us a link for someone on ebay, but they were the same price).

i say do it.

(our 3 year old got a hold of the camera and snapped an entire package of film of her closet--her own photo expose. it was silly and expensive, but they've turned out to be some of our favorite pictures. they always make us laugh.)

I love mine, my 3 year old has had a play with it, I would probably consider one for them when they are 5+. I get our film on ebay from Hong Kong and its a lot cheaper, exactly the same too. I just buy in bulk.

I agree with the few posters that say NO WAY to film cameras for kids. My JB is 10, and takes some pretty decent pics, but most of the time they are blurry out of the car window, and "I just took 20 pictures of my feet" type things.(Here comes my 2 cents) For the money, I think you would be better off looking for a used nintendo DSi. (I saw some this a.m. on line for around $125.00) They have camera's built into them, have fun picture editing software already on board, are light weight, and double as a gaming system which is a life saver for long trips.
HOWEVER,
I'm sure that whatever you decide, it will be awesome and your kids will love it!
God Bless!

Do IT! i remember as a child and longing to take pictures of what the world looked like through my eyes. hang there pictures they take on your wall.... they will be cherished forever. and that is something you can put a price on!:)
