Last Images from Maui.

For those of you who are interested, all these images were shot in manual mode (which is the norm for 98% of my work). They were also shot in jpeg and each was shot with a custom white balance setting. I also shot black and whites in camera for the first time ever.

Enjoy the last of the images from my life changing trip to Maui.

I love the intimate feel of these images. They are so beautiful. Your style of photography has changed so much during the past year that I have been following your blog - and I absolutely LOVE & ADMIRE your work.

Do you shoot in RAW at all or mostly JPEG?

Katherine,

Every shot from this shoot was jpeg. A total first for me. . . well since I VERY first started shooting with my Nikon D70s forever ago.

I can't wait until I can use my camera like this. I am sooo super "motivated jealous". (That's the non sinful kind that I am allowed to be.)

Lately, I am stuck in a designer's trap. That means that I don't function much in my own life because I have to make sure the project that I am advising on, is getting installed to my nitpicky detail satisfaction. Never mind the homeowners level of concern.... I have to see it through to my vision!

I hope one day I am as good of a photographer as I am as a designer. Thanks for inspiring me once again Natalie!

Hi Natalie, I just stumbled upon your blog, and I absolutely love your style :) just wondering... what are the benefits of shooting in black and white? with all the amazing software and photoshop tricks why wouldn't you just convert your colour images and have more options for your clients? just curious, thanks! all the best,

Rena

Oh, so incredible! Any or all of them could totally be in a magazine. And those are in-cam b&ws?? Stunning! #5 is my favorite- they are glowing with happiness. You should be SO proud of these!!

Rena,

You know, it's just pretty much about preference. The in camera black and whites tend to be less muddy than those processed in post. Yes, giving your clients options is good, but so is you having artistic control over what they order that is a representation of your work. It was really neat NOT to have the option to go back to color. It pushed me to really think about my shot from start to finish IN CAMERA rather than just shoot like a mad woman and plan on fixing everything in post. :)

Hope that helps!

Nat

Just wanted to say hello. I'm a mom of three boys and a girl and tho I'm really an amateur photographer I can so identify with being a mom and a "wanna be" if not "a get paid" photographer.
Thanks for your great site.
