Reminder.

I've been promoting the Jonathan Canlas workshop over hill and dale (well not literally, just here and here) and want to remind you that this week is the last week to be eligible for the early bird price. After this week, cost of the workshop will increase by $200.

Again, let me reiterate for the billionth time that I am in no way associated with this workshop other than having been an attendee who's life as a photographer was literally changed by my attendance.

Heard enough? Want to go register? Sure. Off you go.

Your Best Friend's Wedding.

My post, Your Best Friend's Wedding, for Digital Photography School went up today. The post featured the image above from my friend Jonathan, of Jonathan Canlas Photography.

SIDE NOTE:

If you're REALLY serious about becoming a professional photographer or just anxious to polish your skills as a serious hobbyist, you should really check out his workshop that will be held this November in Hawaii. DON'T hesitate. Space is limited and it's filling up FAST! This workshop literally changed my life. Read my full review of the workshop here.

Disclaimer: My article this week for DPS is about shooting your first wedding. If I may however vent a bit here where I can say whatever the bananas I want to:

Shooting your best friend's wedding? Ok, if you just don't have the experience necessary to really make his/her special day shine, JUST SAY NO!! Seriously, say it with me "NO." It's that simple. If you need experience and see this as the perfect opportunity, you are just plain selfish and not the kind of person I'd choose for my bff. Vent hereby complete. Amen.

ONE LAST THING: I have been featuring Jonathan on my site quite a bit as of late. This is not a solicitation by him. Not by any stretch of the imagination. The recommendations you find on this blog are NEVER solicited by any third party. This blog is dedicated to providing information purely in the spirit of love, sharing and karma.

WORKSHOP: Film is Not Dead.

I'm not a hyper enthusiast over many things. I am enthusiastic, yes, about, well nearly everything, but an enthusiast? In the sense of being "an ardent and enthusiastic supporter of some person or activity?" Not very often. I am a very careful guard over my credibility. That said, I'd like to introduce you to my friend Jonathan Canlas and his workshop, Film is Not Dead.

Before we proceed, don't let the FILM concept scare you away. To many of you, film is in fact dead. OK, cool. I shoot digitally as well. Still, I got EVERY PENNY worth. Let's not forget where the concepts behind digital photography derived. . . FILM.

I attended version 1.0 of this workshop back in March. It was FAN.TASTIC! In EVERY sense of the word, particularly the sense that means "exceedingly or unbelievably great" and well the sense that means "ludicrously odd. . ." not so much that one. So then nearly every sense of the word. Ok, moving right along. Let me tell you the top 10 reasons that you should mark your calendars for one (or both!) of the two workshops coming to Oahu this November.

  • 10. The people. Jon brings his groupies. And they rock.
  • 9. The cost of tuition is very reasonable. For what you get, you won't be disappointed.
  • 8. The workbook. It's pretty much out of this world. It will be a primary resource in my photographic library for years to come.
  • 7. This workshop really does lend itself to all ranges of photographic know how. It's a workshop for everyone.* Even the advanced photographer will gain ample knowledge from Jonathan. *Maybe not for a very new beginner. BUT you could definitely be prepared by November! Contact me for recommendations on resources you could use to prepare: natalienorton{at}gmail{dot}com.
  • 6. The networking opportunity. I think a workshop put on by a person like Jon is bound to draw a certain type of photographer to participate. In the Jonathan Canlas workshop I attended, I was amazed at the comradery of the group. The openness and commitment to group success was remarkable. I learned nearly as much from other photographers as I did from Jonathan himself. Ed, you rocked my world, and you know it.
  • 5. You're serious about improving your craft. This workshop is SO COMPLETE. Jon covers everything from exposure to framing to marketing to getting published.
  • 4. One of Jonathan's mantra's is "no industry secrets." You all know that I'm SOOOO on-board with him on this one! If I have to even look at one more ego filled, secretive photographer . . . I'm going to vomit. Jon is LITERALLY an open book.
  • 3. Jon is really, genuinely committed to the success of his attendees. He answers EVERY question, thoroughly and without even a trace of contempt.
  • 2. It's in HAWAII for crying out loud! You know you've been dying to come visit me!
  • 1. The foooooooood! Say it with me, "epicurean delight."

Act now, class size is limited and the cost goes up if you register after the end of the month!

You can get more information here (the Film is Not Dead Blog) or on the official Film is Not Dead website.

xoxo,
Natalie

PS- This recommendation was in no way solicited by Jonathan Canlas or Fuji Film (the sponsor). It is me. Completely. And the hype is all true, and in fact, understated.
