Stroller Help.

OK moms and dads out there, I've had a major crush on this double stroller for some time now, but before I buy I thought I'd ask for your double stroller advice. Do you have a double stroller that you totally love? One you hate? Anyone out there actually own the Kolcraft Contours Tandem seen below and want to give me the 411?

Blogs are great.

Thanks peeps!

We bought this stroller about 3 months ago and absolutely love it. We looked at many different ones and kept coming back to this one. We eliminated the side by side double strollers first because of the simple fact that they can't fit thru standard doorways. But this Kolcraft is well built, smooth riding, and I can't think of one negative thing to say about it.

i know 2 ppl who own it and hate it. b/c it's bulky as heck and is hard to fold up. they end up never using it. My sis-in-law has the double combi and loves it

Damaris,

Ha ha! I have the double Combi and that's what I'm trying to get rid of. It's just really flimsy and since the kids are forced to ride facing forward, whichever boy is in the back yanks the heck out of the kid in front's hair. . . ha ha. . . but bulky and hard to fold are deterrents. . . ahh! So hard to decide!

Katie,

Do you find it to be bulky? What do you think?

Phil and Teds single with a jumpseat (mines the original red...yum!). It's rocked my world since I got it. Folds up small and has 12" tires. Plus it goes back to being a single, no extra spending.

oh im totally interested in this subject too- i need a good double stroller come june so i am wondering what people think.

we have a single combi and liked it, so i was just thinking i would go with the same brand for our doubel- glad to hear your opinion on the subject!

Phil and Ted's Vibe is awesome!!

I looked into phil and teds too, but it doesn't have the infant seat capacity!! Other than that I really like it!

I have 3 kids (5, 3, & 10 months). I'm on my 3rd double: duoglider (good until kids are heavy), sit & stand (hated), and now the Phil & Teds. You can lay the baby below the extra seat when on top (& my 3 year old likes to lay under there though it isn't recommended). I use my Moby Wrap for the baby (and sometimes 3 year old) mostly, but with the P & T and Moby in the trunk, I can handle any combination of my 3 kids. Plus, the P & T has GREAT resale value. --Addie

Ok, I think I'm the only guy commenting so far. We have the Combi double tandem and like it...our single was awesome! I agree with the pulling hair thing, though. Almost every other tandem stroller out there is bulky and heavy...it's just the way it is. We do have a double jogger, made by baby Jogger and that's the cooler stroller of the two...but we don't take it on trips. So, if you're just using it for around Laie, the size of it shouldn't be an issue. If you're planning on loading it in and out of the car a few times a day, I'd keep looking.

Umm.. are you trying to tell us something here?! You mentioned you've been awfully tired lately.. ;-)

Count me in on the Phil&Ted, though more often you'll find me with Baby C on my back than in a stroller. When I liked to pretend I was exercising, though, the Phil & Ted was great- used it a few times when C was ittybitty.

Phil and Ted's is the only way to go. It really is a fantastic stroller. It's not very wide and when you use it as a double it's no bigger than a single. Do NOT underestimate the pain in the buttness of a too big/bulky stroller!! Good Luck. I fell in love with one similar to this and I tried it out at the store. It was sooooo long I felt like I should have one of those beepers installed to let people know when I was turning.

This stroller is seriously so hot!

Natalie,

It is a little bulky, but what do you expect from a double stroller? I just looked up the Phil & Ted's stroller line and they do look very interesting. I just don't see myself getting too excited about spending $650+ on a stroller! We have been very happy with the Kolcraft, but that's just my opinion :)

Thanks Katie. . . yeah the Phil and Teds is out for me sheerly because of frivolousness. . . I'd rather buy a cheap stroller and give 400 dollars to charity or something. . . ha ha ha! I shouldn't say that, because maybe after I try one I'll be hooked and then have to eat my words. ;)

I have the single version of this stroller and love it! It's pretty easy to use and fold up, and my daugther likes it as well. I was a lady in Target with one the other day and was impressed. We can't fork over big bucks for a stroller either...so when we have #2 I would love to have the two seater version!

This is what you want: The BabyJogger City Mini. http://www.babyjogger.com/cityminidouble.htm

It's cheaper than Phil and Ted's, fits through doors, folds up into nothing, is very light, and truly kicks. That being said, I can't wait until the babies can walk themselves!

Thought I'd leave a love note about my sit-n-stand stroller. I love my Joovy Caboose Ultralight. It's narrow and fits through tight little spaces at the mall, it folds and unfolds VERY easily, I can lift it without any problem, and it fits in the trunk of my little car. My 3 yr old likes the comfortable sit and stand part, and my 10 month old just "chills" in the front seat (which by the way can also fit a carseat). It manuveurs very well and can spin easily inside an elevator. I think I payed $350ish for the ultralight version, but it is SO worth it. I'm quite the weakling when it comes to lifting, but this is easy!

We take daily neighborhood walks, library trips, etc. all the time. Love it. I hope someone else will too!

Natalie, I don't have the double Kolcraft like the one you have pictured, but I have the single. I like its style and durability but sometimes it is too hard to fold and unfold and can be too bulky to get into the car. I can't imagine a double, but then I guess thats how most doubles will be. If you'll be getting in and out a lot then it may be hard. But I LUV the way it looks. So modern and clean lines. (thats why I got it- and the fact that it has a lot of storage space in the bottom).

I am all about the Maclaren Twin Techno. UV canopy, can use from birth on up, it is side by side and fits through standard doorways, light, and about $300. I keep trying to find something better but I go back to this contraption. I am looking to accommodate baby twins though, not toddler and infant.

Also, Consumer reports marks the Kolocraft low because of a problem with the infant seat. If the stroller tips the infant seat slips off. They may have fixed the problem by now but it is worth checking it out.

Jackie,

I like that one a lot! I just cannot do side by side or my children kill each other!

I tried out the kolcraft double..It was so long I felt like it wouldn't be able to turn around corners well..and opening doors on my own would require me to stand ant the door and pull the stroller through from the front. I got the Phil and Teds Vibe.. It does cost a lot..but it's reseal value is high also. So when you are done you can ebay or craigslist it. It has worked very well and I can also fit my Graco SafeSeat in the front seat just fine. (with the toddler in the back)

I have photo of Graco/Vibe here.

I Have had the vibe for a while and totally don't regret it at all. And we actually use it in Doc. offices..It can fit in the exam room with us and one kid can stay in it while the other gets shots etc.

this has been very helpful! ugh, the double stroller decision making is sucking the life out of me. did you ever get the contours stroller? if yes, what's the scoop? thanks!

Natalie. said...

Sam,

No I didn't get it. I actually haven't gotten one at all yet. I'm still using my rusty old jogger for walks and then braving things like the mall strollerless. . . I just really think I'd prefer another jogger. . . which complicates my decision even more.

Good luck!
