Want to take your photography to the next level? Are you a beginner or an intermediate photographer with a real passion for taking great images? Love making people "ooh and aww" over the images in your scrapbooks and framed on your walls? Want to gain artistic control over your images by understanding your camera rather than always being at its mercy? Maybe you're even thinking about going pro. . . If any of those descriptions make your heart sing, then this class is for you.
Equipment Required: If you've got a DSLR that's great, but if not, you'll definitely be ok as long a you have a camera with the capacity to set aperture and shutter speed manually.
Instructor:
I'm Natalie Norton, a wedding and portrait photographer who knows how to juggle a kindergartner, 2 toddlers, a business, all the laundry and still have dinner on the table by 6 . . . most of the time. ;) I am an instructor for Digital Photography School, the number 1 digital photography blog in the world, where I educate upwards of 100,000 unique visitors with my weekly posts in the realm of beginning and intermediate digital photography.
Topics Covered:
- manual camera settings
- seeing and understanding light and how it affects your photography
- exposure
- intermediate - advanced creative composition
- we'll also spend time reviewing and critiquing each other's work from our weekly homework assignments
- after each class, 15-20min, I'll be available for q&a: I'm happy to talk about anything under the sun. This will be particularly useful to those of you who are interested in talking business (ie how I got started, what I wish I'd known etc.) as we will not be discussing that in depth during class time
- even if you feel you have a solid handle on exposure and camera settings, this class will still challenge you artistically
- Wednesdays for 3 weeks and one bonus (optional) Saturday shadowing opportunity.
- Regular classes: Nov 5th, 12th and 19th, 8:30-9:30pm.
- Bonus: come shadow me on a real shoot! Observe me in action. Saturday November 22nd 10:00am. I'll think aloud as I conduct a real portrait session, to be followed by an on site q&a and further discussion is available once images from the shoot are posted on the blog.
- In the back of Ohana Video in the Laie Shopping Center.
- Bonus class location: TBA.
- Cost for this workshop is $150. A $100 non-refundable retainer is due upfront to reserve your space and balance is due in full at least 1 week prior to the first class. Class will cap at 15 students so register today.
Save $50 by enrolling in both PhotoMoms and Foundational Photography simultaneously! Total due will be $200 rather than the retail price of $250.

i'm kind of upset this is not happening in TAMPA, FLORIDA because i would totally attend. why don't you make it happen? huh? huh? (hint, hint)
Thanks for the cute little button Nat! Love ya!
Sounds like a great course for beginners focusing on exposure and light. These are so important yet often overlooked with the auto everything point and shoot camera.
Hope the classes go well for you.
Uggg. I wish I could take these!
Haaaaaaw, I wish I still lived in Laie!! You don't know how bad I want to attend the two classes...well, ya probably do..in fact tons of us do!! :) You Rock!
OH!!! How I wish I still lived in Laie!
If you do similar classes next Spring, I will honestly fly to Hawaii to take them.
Ha ha ha! Sounds good!
Actually, we're thinking about setting up a class for the next time I'm in Utah as there seem to be quite a few interested from that area. So you may be able to save a dollar or two on the flight :).
If you decide to do a class the next time you are in Utah I would love to come! My email address is meggs1633@aol.com. If you decide to do it please email me in case I miss the information on your blog! Thanks!!
Too bad you are not in Mexico! hello Natalie, this is Adriana from Monterrey Mexico
I would like to be on San Francisco wish list - I wish you were teaching here!
I was wondering if you've ever considered teaching an online course? Sounds like you'd have lots of participants (me being one of them). I've taken several photography courses online (including projects and being able to share photos with my online classmates). It would be even better taking it from someone like you who has such a unique spin on photography. Hope you'll consider it for a down the road project!
It's definitely in the works. I'm not sure how far down the road it will be, but It's a comin'!
xo,
Natalie
