Here are the finalists of the Pics and Kicks Summer Contest. With 269 images to choose between, we had quite the challenge ahead of us! There were some really fantastic entries! This week my panel consisted of local Laie photographer Mark Lee, his wonderful wife Patria and of course Richie and myself. We chose finalists based on relevance, composition and overall image strength, and again couldn't limit ourselves to 3 so you'll find not 3, not 4 but 5 lovely summery images below. Thank you so much Mark, Patria and Richie for putting your hearts into it. It was a tough job!

All I know is that I LOVE all of them! I've got to spend a while on this...I cannot choose. Really great pictures! Until later...I'll be looking at these some more:)
OOH! They're ALL truly SUMMER! It's so hard to choose! If I must choose only one ( 2 or 5? 5 or 2?)....I will vote for 2. Why 2? Because first of all, the photo is lovely. Secondly, every summer my father-in-law comes home late from work because he's picking literally GALLONS of blackberries in his secret spots. Last night we has blackberry cobbler. So thanks to the Mildensteins, blackberries= summer to me.
These are too hard to choose between. But I really love #4.
Wow, well, I would have to say if 'Summer' is the theme then #3 takes the cake. #4 says fall or spring to me. Summer to me is carnival rides and cotton candy on the boardwalk. #3!!!
My vote is for #4. We just went and picked a bunch of blackberries from a local farm recently. They were delicious.
For me, #1 really embodies my summer. Good friends, laughing and enjoying themselves around the pool. So my vote (thought they are all so lovely!) is #1.
dang these are good. I'm going to have to sit on this one for a while. they're all just so good.
I vote #1! The essence of summer beauties... sun glasses, great summer hats, and laughter in the sun! what more can you ask for to embody a summer moment!!?
I like photo number 3. It makes me think of summer and fun. The colors are great and I like the way the wheel was captured in the photo.
I love #2- so bright and vibrant, and also making my mouth water!

Well, my first impulse this morning when I saw them was #1. Yep -- that's what I'm still going with! #1. It's the one I just keep wanting to look at. I love everything about it -- the women are gorgeous, the hats and bathing suits - pure summer. Love it.

oh my goodness!!! I cannot believe I was included....what a great group to be apart of!! but I do have to say.....#3 is screaming at me--it's perfect!! tones, composition, everything!

#3 ROCKS!! THE RIDE, THE COLORS, SCREAM SUMMER FUN!
Number 3!! You can't beat blue skies and sweethearts riding the ferris wheel together. That is what summer is all about. The photo is perfect.
I love #5. The sun still shining brightly as it slowly sets behind the girl just really gives you that feel of summer. The person capture this just right. The tall grass is brown so it gives you the feel that it hadn't rain in a while. I also get the sense that the little girl is on a picnic with her family. Even though it is hard to see the blue sky, you know that it is clear just the way the sun hits your eye. Your eyes are drawn to the sun but immediately you look to the little girl. She becomes the sweet subject of this image.
Hard to choose, but my vote is for #4.

I'm going to vote for number 4.
I'm in the UK and we haven't seen ANY sun at all this summer, just rain, rain, rain and more rain!
So I like number 4 because I can see the sun in it!

I love 1, 3, and 5 because they all embody summer in such different and unique ways, but I will have to say that 3 takes the cake. I love the ferris wheel because first, the color and composition is outstanding. Also, it is such a crisp, bright picture and I love that I can imagine myself in it. It takes me somewhere else. So I vote #3: the ferris wheel.

I think #5 takes the cake! Reminds me of being a child which, in my opinion, are the best summer memories I've ever had! Oh to feel that young again, not a care in the world but to run through the sprinklers and climb a tree!
my favorite of the bunch is definitely 5. i love the color...the warmness of the shot as a whole makes it feel like a summery hazy dream. the range of colors in the kids swimsuits and that there's so many of them and they're all doing different things embodies summer to me...they're all distracted...playing, enjoying good times with friends...playing...wet..in the grass. i like how they fill the frame...how there's a hazy wetness at the top and reflection on the sidewalk at the bottom... number 5 gets my vote!

i too am torn between 2 and 5. i can hear the sounds of 5. i have to say i completely love the simplicity of 2. the perfectly imperfect nature of everyday gifts. though blackberries do not come every day. so my final answer is #2.

Hands down #5- it completely embodies summer and really just begs you to jump in the picture with it- love it, love it, love it. It makes me forget my worries completely!
I'd have to agree with you sir, #5 is by far the best- it speaks to the inner child within all of us. Its the ONLY picture of the 5 that could truly exist ONLY in the summer- therefore, its the best!
#5 gets my vote too- I love how the picture of the children is reflected in the sidewalk- perfect. Whoever took this picture is a true artist, to have seen that and then captured it perfectly.

I pick #5! THAT is the picture of summer! I like how it's not completely straight but the angle is kinda off. It creates the feeling of summer fun! and who doesn't love running through sprinklers?!

Goodness, what a fun contest with some really sizzling entries. A choice for a vote is difficult because each speaks so well to the theme. However, I have to place my vote for NUMBER ONE....shades, hats, fun, laughter, good friends.....speaks of sizzling, summer fun to me!

I love #3 it reminds me of summer fun not just from todays summers but from my childhood and from movies that show summers in the 40's and 60's. I love the colors and the lighting and angle of the photo.

It was truly not an easy choice...but I think I'll have to say #5. Two reasons - number one...you just can't do that in the winter...I mean, I guess you could - but you'd surely be freezing your buns off...number two - it absolutely reminds me of my childhood - playing in the sprinklers with my sisters...
Thematically it delivers the message for me, composition is great and shows movement - I'm in love with the wet reflection on the sidewalk...
