lucky shot.

(promise me you'll click to enlarge)

I know.
amazing, right?

Totally "just" a lucky shot. . .

but truth be told,
I don't believe much in luck,
except for the kind you make all by yourself.

Take the above picture for example,
I got lucky,
sure.

BUT
I was prepared for the luck when it came my way.

I've worked hard to know my gear
like the back of my hand.

I was waiting and hoping for exactly this to happen.

I was holding out patiently until my luck came a'calling.

. . .

When people say,
oh, "he just got lucky"
or "I have the WORST luck."

I hardly ever buy it.

It almost ALWAYS goes much deeper than that.

my 2 cents.

xx!

Nat

a. perfect focus. NICE!
b. that bird has crazy eyes! hilarious!
c. i totally agree with you about luck. i believe we have much more control over our lives than we think. and when we do get "lucky", really, we are just blessed.

Great shot. My husband and I live by the motto "the harder we work the luckier we get".

Great shot...would love to hear why that nice lady is holding such a crazy-eyed bird, LOL.

Awesome photo!

I have the same attitude toward luck. In Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," the old man says something along the lines of "It is good to be lucky, but I'd rather be exact. Then, when the luck comes, I'll be ready." I try to live my life that way, too.

During a photojournalism class in college we had a newspaper reporter come in and address our class. He shared a few nuggets of wisdom, one being the quote "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity." Almost a decade later that quote still rings incredibly true to me.

Great image!

I remember when you started this blog. I remember when i started my blog and the food looked awful. Now my food pictures look at least edible.

p.s I'm still waiting for a food photography tutorial.

Totally agreed. Blessings are totally dependent upon how much we prepare the way for the Lord to send 'em our way!

Definitely 50x cooler when you enlarge it. And that's saying a lot.

Awesome shot Natalie! Yes, I can see that knowing what you are doing and how your gear works takes the "luck" part out of the equation. For me.. for now, a shot like that is mostly luck. :0) But I'm working hard to change that and to take the luck factor out of a great shot. You, and many others, inspire me to persevere through my frustrating moments. :D

I AGREE completely.

I am easily distracted and was trying to find out about your Utah workshop and how to sign up and then I just have more fun reading your latest.

The thing of it is.... I am trying to make myself LUCKY in the photography category! I am in full focus to get to your Utah workshop!!!! In case I get hit by a train in the meantime, keep a space open for me because I will still be there!
